Putting In Meta Tags - Do It Manually

What a can of worms I opened...

I WISH they just didn't allow it... HOLY ####!!!!

If my client's setup doesn't allow for the use of Tag Manager, or some other plugin... just proceed using the following information.

Titles

.....

Title... Google uses the first 50 to 60 characters, so make the beginning very descriptive...

I don't remember where I saw that. I'm bouncing all over the place now.

Descriptions

All those plugins...

They display previews of major search engines...

If you don't put in a description, the engines will automatically use your first paragraph.

Keywords

Supposedly, search engines no longer use keywords.

So, what's with all those SEO tools STILL focusing on them?

Long-tail keywords...

Now, don't tell me engines aren't using LONG-TAIL keywords.

Just came across a site that stated it "did all the work for you".

It stated this about a dozen times.

Needless to say, it didn't do squat.

Found that thing on page one.

Although keyword tags many not be in common use, search engines still use them to determine relevance.

(At least as far as those smiley faces are concerned.)

Whatever you want to call it, your "keyword focus" better be in your title, description (first paragraph), AND your URL.

Oh... and of course, in the body of your page. - Three times should be all right.

Headings

This is the first time I've used "Headings".

Apparently, engines will use this automatically... somehow.

Since a lot of sites seem to make a big stink about putting in meta tags...

I guess we now need to focus on stuff like that.

Let me go back and change this whole page...

URL's

And that's the other thing - URL's.

Looking over this page, I decided that the title wasn't descriptive enough for a search engine...

Yeah, I changed the title... but not the URL, which no longer matches the title.

.....

Backup the info, add another subpage, and copy & paste the info to the new page.

Once that's done, go ahead and delete the old page.

(I want to see all those little green smiley faces.)
