I see why Yoast is so popular.
It's very satisfying, as far as applications are concerned.
There's something very appealing about seeing a page full of little green smiley faces.
Any latent techie phobias are killed on the spot.
And it starts at the beginning (also, very satisfying)...
Submitting your site to all the major search engines.
RankMath, on the other hand, is set at "Advanced" mode by default.
That alone should set off alarms for all newbies.
Perhaps it's purposely setting itself apart from Yoast.
It certainly can no longer claim to be absolutely free, now that it too has a paid version.
(All those reviews claiming otherwise are 3 years old.)
So... as far as the "experts" claiming its superiority over Yoast is concerned... who knows.
Yoast has had 3 years to address any shortcomings on its part.
